Frequently Asked Questions

Will my website work on mobile phones and tablets?

Yes — every site I build is fully responsive. I test on real devices, not just desktop browsers, before anything goes live.

What about GDPR and privacy?

I’ll set up a privacy policy and cookie consent banner that meets UK GDPR requirements. If you take payments or collect personal data, I’ll make sure the right safeguards are in place.

How fast will my website load?

Page speed matters — both for user experience and for Google rankings. I optimise all images, use clean code, and recommend reliable hosting so your site loads quickly. Google measures this through Core Web Vitals, and I make sure your site performs well against those benchmarks.

Can AI build my website for me?

AI tools can generate basic content and simple page layouts, but they can’t interview you about your business, understand your customers, or make the judgement calls that turn a generic site into one that actually wins you work. I use AI tools where they save time on routine tasks — but the thinking, the design decisions, and the responsibility for the finished product are always mine.

What happens to my website if I stop working with you?

You own your website. I’ll make sure you have full access to your domain name, hosting account, and all website files at all times — you’re never locked in.

What questions should I ask my web designer?

Good ones. Here are the most important:
• Will my site work on mobile phones?
• How long will the project take from start to finish?
• Can I update the content myself, or do I need to come back to you?
• How do you make sure my customers’ payment details are safe?
• Do I own my domain name and website files?
• What happens if I want to move to a different designer in future?

Can I design my own website?

Yes, but be aware it is a very time-consuming process. The most widely used DIY platforms are Wix, Squarespace, and Shopify (for online shops). They’ve improved considerably and can produce decent results if you’re willing to invest real time. The honest answer is that most business owners start one, get frustrated, and either launch something they’re not proud of or abandon it entirely. I’m happy to advise you on whether DIY is right for your situation — no obligation.

What do I need to know about SEO?

SEO is a way of using images, text, code, and website structure to make your website appeal to Google so that it climbs up its search rankings. The most important factors are clean code, fast loading, mobile-friendliness, and well-structured content. I build all of these in as standard, and I’m happy to discuss ongoing SEO support if you need it.

Does my web designer really do everything?

I’m transparent about how I work — if I bring in anyone else for a specific task, you’ll know about it, and I take full responsibility for the finished result. In most cases, I handle everything myself.
